Funeral services set Tuesday for fallen Gwinnett County senior corrections officer

Gwinnett County police have announced funeral arrangements for Senior Correctional Officer Scott Riner, who was shot and killed last week.

The funeral service for 59-year-old Riner will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at North Metro Church, 1026 Old Peachtree Road NE, Lawrenceville.

Immediately after the church service, a police procession will transport Riner to the West View Cemetery in Monticello.

The Gwinnett Department of Corrections invites residents to line the route in honor of Officer Riner.

The procession will turn:

  • Left out of the Church
  • Right onto Ga. 20
  • Right onto Scenic Highway
  • Left onto Ga. 20
  • Left onto U.S. 78
  • Right onto Ga. 81
  • Left onto Ga. 142
  • Left onto Ga. 36

At the traffic circle, the procession will take Ga. 212 to the dead end and turn left onto West Washington Street then left onto an unnamed street that leads to College Street.

The procession with turn left onto College Street and left onto Westview Street, arriving at the cemetery.

Gwinnett County police officials say they expect an increase in congestion along the route and suggest that motorists plan accordingly and include extra time to reach their destination or plan an alternate route.

Gwinnett Police SWAT Team arrested Yahya Abdulkadir, 22, of Dacula in Lithonia on Friday, charging him with felony murder and aggravated assault.

Riner was shot and killed outside the Department of Corrections complex on Hi Hope Road just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
