Man accused of killed Gwinnett County Correctional Officer arrested

The Gwinnett County Police SWAT Team arrested a man who is accused of killing a senior correctional officer Tuesday morning.
 
Yayha Abulkadir, 22 of Dacula, was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in the death of Scott Riner, 59 of Dacula.
 
Abulkadir was arrested without incident in the area of 6984 Main Street in Lithonia at 1:30 p.m.
 
Riner’s reported murder happened shortly after 6:20 a.m. at the Correctional Complex at 750 Hi Hope Road in Lawrenceville. 
 
Officers responded to a “person shot” call and found Riner dead with a gunshot wound. According to the preliminary investigation, Riner was shot in the parking lot outside the correctional facility.
 
According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the Homicide Unit has been working this case around the clock since the incident happened early Tuesday morning.
 
“Through diligent investigative work, detectives were able to identify Abdulkadir as the suspect in this case,” the agency said in a press release.
 
Abdulkadir will be transported to Gwinnett County and he will be booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.
 
The U.S. Marshall’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office and the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the case.
 
Riner worked at the Correctional Complex for over 10 years.
