Habersham County wreck Thursday seriously hurts passenger

A wreck north of Clarkesville Thursday afternoon seriously injured the passenger.

A green Kia Sorento SUV driven by 52-year-old David William McConnell of Clarkesville was traveling north on New Liberty Road in the northbound lane and traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway, the Georgia State Patrol said.

GSP said McConnell overcorrected and the vehicle rotated counterclockwise across the roadway, traveled off the west shoulder of the roadway, overturned onto its passenger side, and the top of SUV struck a tree.

The passenger, 81-year-old William Loyd McConnell of Clarkesville suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northeast Georgia, GSP said.

David W. McConnell, who suffered a possible minor injury, was charged by GSP for failure to maintain lane and slick tires.
