Boys basketball: West Hall, Bluff take region wins

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — West Hall rallied from a first half deficit to stay unbeaten in Region 7-3A with a 49-41 win over Lumpkin County on Friday.

It was the fifth straight win overall for West Hall  (6-2, 2-0 Region 7-3A). It was the second straight loss for Lumpkin County (1-7, 0-2 Region 7-3A).

The Spartans trailed 9-8 after the first quarter and Lumpkin County controlled the early tempo to take a 21-18 lead into halftime.

But West Hall got going in the second half. The Spartans outscored the Indians 14-11 in the third quarter to tie the game at 32 heading into the fourth.

In the final period, Quintavous Reid and  Andrew Malin combined for 15 points as the Spartans used a 17-9 run ton eventually pull away for the win.

Isaiah Holder led West Hall with 14 points and Malin finished with 12 points. Reid had 9 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Lumpkin County was led by Cal Faulkner’s 11 points. Stephen Sherril had 8 points for the Indians.

West Hall next will travel to Athens Academy on Saturday. Lumpkin County next will play host to Gilmer on Tuesday.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 74,
JOHNSON 32

The Bears exploded for a 21-2 second run en route to a Region 8-4A win on the road.

The big second quarter was part of a 44-12 first half as Bluff (4-2, 2-1 Region 8-4A) got its second region road win in the early part of the schedule.

Bluff hit 14 3-pointers for the game, paced by Jhace Justice, who had 5 treys as part of his 17 points. Logan Holmes led the Bears with 18 points, 15 coming in the big first half surge.

Andre Hernandez led Johnson (0-5, 0-3 Region 8-4A) with 12 points. The Knights hit just three 3-pointers.

Johnson will continue region play on Tuesday playing host to Madison County. The Bears will play host to Forsyth Central on Tuesday in a non-region contest.
