Girls basketball: Branch takes region opener; LCA falls

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Flowery Branch girls used a huge fourth quarter to pull away from Clarke Central, 55-35, in both teams’ Region 8-5A openers on Friday.

The game was tied at 11 after the first quarter and the Lady Falcons (6-2, 2-0 Region 8-5A) took a slim 21-17 lead into halftime. Branch extended its lead to 36-27 heading after the third quarter and blew it open with a 19-8 fourth quarter.

Amyia Scott paced Flowery Branch with 16 points. Bella Brick added 15 points and Brannen Shiloh 12 for the Lady Falcons.

Branch next will travel to Jefferson on Tuesday to continue region play.

Some key missed free throws down the stretch denied the Lady Lightning  in a rematch from last week.

Camille Hoffmann had another double-double for the Lady Lightning pouring in 15 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Adelyn Gough had 14 points for LCA (4-5).

The Lady Lightning open their region schedule on Tuesday at home against Killian Hill Christian.
