Basketball: Branch boys stay unbeaten; LCA girls' win streak snapped

HOSCHTON, Ga. — The Flowery Branch boys remained unbeaten on the young season after taking a dominating 83-47 win over Jackson County on the road Thursday night.

The Falcons (6-0) opened the game with a 19-9 run, powered by Jeremiah Ware and Fe Honors, who had 13 combined points in the first eight minutes. Branch would take a 32-21 lead into halftime.

Branch exploded for 51 points in the second half as Jackson Owens and Jayden Gugz led the charge. The Facons held the Panthers (0-8) to just 26 points in the second half.

Gudz scored 7 of his 10 points in the third quarter and Owens scored all 11 of his points after halftime as 13 different players scored for Flowery Branch.

Ware finished with 17 points to pace the Falcons. Gudz and Honors both had 10 points and Tyleek Worth had 9 for Branch, who hit 10 3-pointers for the game.

Jackson County was led by Logan Tulllis’s 17 points. Jaiden Holmes and EJ Heath both added 8 points for the Panthers.

Branch will open its Region 8-5A schedule at home on Friday against Clarke Central (2-2)

The Lady Lightning fell behind early and could not recover as they had their three-game win streak snapped.

Adelyn Gough led LCA (4-4) with 12 points. 

The Lady Lightning next will play host to Sugar Hill Christian on Friday.
