Girls basketball: LCA rallies for win; Johnson drops region opener

SUGAR HILL — Lanier Christian Academy improved to 3-3 with a 31-29 come-from-behind win on the road Thursday night.

The Lady Lightning bench came through late after two starters fouled out. Shae Tumlin, Kendyl Neal, Faith Bolton, and Kaitlyn DeLozier chipped in with some key minutes and baskets down the stretch.

LCA senior Camille Hoffmann led all scorers with 14 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds. Ellie Roberts had 6 points and 7 rebounds, Adelyn Gough had 5 points and 7 rebounds, and Lesah Hoffmann added 4 points and 3 rebounds for the Lady Lightning.

Kaitlyn DeLozier added 2 and 2 rebounds  for LCA.

The Lady Lightning will be back in action on Tuesday against White Creek.

Johnson opened its Region 8-4A schedule on Thursday with a loss on the road.

The Lady Jaguars jumped out to a big first quarter lead and continued to pull away in the second half. Cedar Shoals (2-2, 1-0 Region 8-4A) led 18-5 after the opening quarter and took a 35-10 lead into halftime.

Marijane See paced Johnson (0-2, 0-1 Region 8-4A) with 7 points. Kenisha Avila and Nataly Mota had 5 points apiece for the Lady Knights.

Johnson has a huge game on Saturday with West Hall on Saturday in the Lanierland Tournament play-in game.

Tip-off is slated for 12:30 p.m. at West Hall.
