Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office to conduct active shooter drill

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s office is reminding all residents and business owners that The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Court Operations Division will be conducting a live, multi-agency, active shooter exercise on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

According to a press release, this exercise will serve the purpose of continuing the agency’s readiness response to a threat of an active shooter at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.  The agency says this exercise will be completely realistic. Residents and business owners that are located near GJAC should expect loud sirens, temporary road delays, and live emergency vehicle responses along Constitution Blvd, Nash Street, Langley Drive, and the surrounding area during this training.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office says it ensures that this exercise is temporary and the traffic delay to residents’ regular commute will be minimal. The agency asks citizens to remember that although this is a training exercise, all applicable traffic laws still apply. As per law, drivers must yield the right of way to all emergency vehicles, as well as reduce their speed upon approaching any emergency vehicle that has activated its emergency lights and sirens.

The agency also asks residents to note that this exercise will not hinder their ability to call 911 for any emergency services.
