Girls basketball: Branch wins EJax tourney; Buford wins Jackson EMC tourney; Lakeview, NHall win

GAINESVILLE — Lakeview Academy won its first game of the season, beating Jackson County, 54-38, at the North Hall gym.

Lakeview grab the early lead in the first quarter, 15-7, and extended the lead from there.

The Lady Lions (1-2) were led by Taliah Gaither with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Kivana Bogne came off the bench to pour in 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals, and Jia Thapar had 12 points for Lakeview.

Ashlyn Henderson scored 6 points and pulled 11 rebounds. while Annie Nivens had a well-rounded game of 5 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Lakeview will next take on White County on Friday at Truett McConnell.


NORTH HALL 55,
BANKS COUNTY 43

Kristina Peach scored 23 points to lead the Lady Trojans past Banks County at home on Tuesday. 

Down 23-22 at the half, Peach dropped 16 of her 23 points in the third quarter to lead the Lady Trojans’ second-half comeback. 

Amelia Shoemaker added 13 points and was key in the second half for the Lady Trojans. Athena Vachtsevonas add 9.


BUFORD 91, 
TALULAH FALLS 58

Taylor Romano scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Lady Wolves past Tallulah Falls in the Jackson EMC championship game at Jackson County on Tuesday. 

Buford controlled the game from the tip, rushing out to a 57-20 halftime lead. 

Tournament MVP Ava Grace Watson added 14 points, Betty Nguyen and Lydia Ledford chipped in 13 each. Romano was named to the All-Tournament team. 

Buford will travel to Harrison on Tuesday. 


FLOWERY BRANCH 66,
EAST JACKSON 59

The Lady Falcons won their second straight game, rallying in the fourth quarter to beat the Lady Eagles to win the East Jackson Thanksgiving Tournament.

Branch (2-2) trailed 51-46 after the third quarter but outscored East Jackson (1-4) 20-8 over the final eight minutes to get the win.

It was a back-and-forth affair, with East Jackson leading 17-15 after the first quarter. The Lady Falcons answered back with a 20-14 run in the second quarter for a 35-31 halftime lead.

Bella Brick poured in 18 points to pace Flowery Branch. Jada Gudz added 13 points, Brannen Shiloh had 9 points, and Amiya Scott 8 for the Lady Falcons.
