ATHENS Ga. — The Cherokee Bluff girls got the inaugural Peach State Explosion off to a hot start with a 53-33 thumping of Clarke Central on Saturday at Cedar Shoals high School.
Cherokee Bluff (3-1) was paced by Mia Williams and Claire Carlson, who each poured in 17 points. Carlson also added 5 assists and 7 steals while Williams pulled down 8 rebounds.
Emma Reynolds chipped in with 8 points and Kaitlin Cook had 6 points for the Lady Bears.
Cherokee Bluff, which has won three straight, will take part in the Hoops4Hunger Elite High School Showcase (Nov. 25 & 26) at Eagles Landing Christian. The Lady Bears will play host Eagles Landing Christian on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Spartans outscored the Panthers 41-20 in the second and third quarters to pull away for their first victory of the season at home.
West Hall (1-1) led just 15-11 after the opening period. But behind the shooting of Owen Jenkins, the Spartans would take 55-31 lead into the fourth quarter.
Jenkins finished with a game-high 29 points, including 7 3-pointers. Xavier Felix added 12 points, Andrew Malin had 11 points, Ethan Clifford 10 points, and Isaiah Holder 9 chipped in with 9 points and pulled down 7 offensive rebounds.
West Hall next will play Windsor Forest at home on Monday in the AIS Feast Week Tournament.
