Girls basketball: Lady Tigers beat Branch, give Anglin 1st-ever win; Bluff rolls past Apalachee

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga — The Dawson County girls opened their season in grand style on Tuesday, getting a 55-41 road win over Flowery Branch and first-time head coach Will Anglin his first varsity win in his first game.

The Lady Tigers (1-0) led just 15-10 after a back-and-forth opening quarter. Jayla Gudz kept the Lady Falcons (0-1) within striking distance, pouring 7 points in the quarter.

But Dawson County used a 16-8 run in the second quarter to take a 31-18 halftime lead. The Lady Tigers extended it 50 34 heading into the fourth quarter.

Kindra Coker poured in 14 points to lead nine different Dawson County scorers. Eva Bishop and Kirklyn Porter each had 10 points for the Lady Tigers.

Gudz paced the Lady Falcons with 18 points but was held to just 11 points over the final three quarters. Amiya Scott had 8 points and Bella Brick 7, including two 3-pointers, for Flowery Branch.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 62, 
APALACHEE 33 

Freshman Claire Carlson led the Lady Bears with 16 points in the win over the Lady Wildcats Tuesday at home.

Carlson also dished out six assists and swiped six steals.

Senior Mia Williams also poured in 16 points, while Emma Reynolds had 9 points and two assists.

Bluff travels to Forsyth Central on Friday. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
