A Rabun County Sheriff’s Office employee received a warning after the Georgia State Patrol said his departmental vehicle was at fault in an injury wreck in Habersham County Tuesday morning.
Anthony Ortega, 22, of Lakemont was warned for failure to yield after troopers said he pulled his unmarked 2014 Ford Taurus from Panther Creek Lane onto U.S. 441 / Ga. 15 and it was struck by a northbound vehicle about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.
A Chevrolet Express G3500 driven by 48-year-old Mario Morin-Mendez of Auburn was traveling north on U.S. 441 / Ga. 15 and struck the Ford Taurus on its driver’s side.
After impact, the Chevrolet traveled across both southbound lanes and came to rest in a ditch. The Taurus also ran off the road onto the east shoulder.
Ortega was taken to Habersham Medical Center for treatment of a possibly minor injury, GSP said.
Morin-Mendez also suffered a possible minor injury but was not transported, GSP said. His passenger, 37-year-old Valdez Garcia of Auburn, was not hurt.
