Funeral services set Wednesday for former Banks County sheriff

The sheriffs in both Banks and Jackson counties are sending condolences in the loss of former Banks County Sheriff Allen Venable.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Ga. 51 South in Banks County.
 
Venable, 74, died Monday, Oct. 17, at his home in Lula..
 
A native of Commerce, he retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service and also was a retired Banks County sheriff.
 
“Sheriff Carlton Speed and all the members of the Banks County Sheriff’s Office send our thoughts and prayers to Sheriff Venable's family and friends,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads.
 
The family will receive friends at the church from noon until the funeral hour Wednesday.
 
Similarly, Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum expressed her condolences.
 
“As Sheriff and on behalf of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family of former Banks County Sheriff Allen Venable,” Mangum wrote. “He also served the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for awhile.“
