FLOWERY BRANCH — The top-ranked Lumpkin County girls jumped out to a 20-4 lead early and never looked back in the 62-41 win over Cherokee Bluff on the road Tuesday.

The Lady Indians (14-1, 5-0 Region 7-3A), however, did turn in a not-so-pretty second quarter, only scoring five points. The Lady Bears (7-8, 2-3 Region 7-3A) couldn't take advantage of Lumpkin County's offensive woes in the second period, only scoring six points, but kept pace with the No. 1 team in Class 3A in the second half, 37-31.

Averie Jones led the Lady Indians with 21 points. Mary Mullinax turned in 18 points, while Lexi Pierce had 10 points.

Timber Gaither was the top scorer for the Lady Bears with 14 points -- 12 from the 3-point line. Emilee Scott chipped in four 3-pointers for 12 points.

Tatum Ozment and Ava Grace Watson scored 16 points each to lead the Lady Wolves (9-3, 2-0) to the Region 8-6A win at Dacula on Tuesday.

Jayla Gudz had 13 points, Taylor Ramon scored 10, and Maidson Pickens with 9.

The Lady Trojans rode a hot second-quarter performance to the end to beat Dawson County at the Ford Phillips Center in Dawsonville.

North Hall (10-5, 2-3 Region 7-3A) outscored the Lady Tigers, 20-12, in the second period to take a 32-24 lead at the half.

It was enough to withstand Dawson County's push in a tight second-half, of which Dawson County (9-6, 2-3 Region 7-3A) won 30-29.

The Lady Trojans had four in double digits with Rylee McCall's 17-point performance as the team's high scorer. Amelia Shoemaker and Kate Swanson scored 12 each, and Kristina Peach added 11.

Ella Siuta and Kirklyn Porter shot a game-high 18 points apiece to pace the Lady Tigers.

Emma Lightsey scored 9 points, and Claire Beckman had 8.

Mackenzie White hit a free throw West Hall's only point of the game.

The Lady Dragons (13-2, 3-1 Region 8-4A) started the New Year off on the right foot with a big win over Chestatee (9-5, 1-2 Region 8-4A) at home on Tuesday.

No. 2 Jefferson rebounded from the 49-32 loss to No. 1 Lumpkin County last week.
