ICYMI: Week 3 wrap -- Chestatee, East Jackson, RMA lead 1st-win parade on Friday

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

On the lightest night of the young season, several Northeast Georgia-area teams picked up their first wins of the season Friday night.

In the case of Riverside Military Academy, it was the Eagles’ first win -- and game -- in 673 days since the 2019 season. They rallied in the second half to beat Druid Hills 32-26 on the road.

East Jackson snapped its 10-game losing streak with a 28-0 over Banks County, which is also looking for its first win of the season. East Hall was looking for its win for new coach Matt Turner but fell 38-21 to Franklin County.

Chestatee also picked up its first win with a thrilling 41-28 victory over Union County in Gainesville. With the win, the War Eagles snapped an 11-game losing streak. The Panthers are still looking for their first win for new coach Michael Perry.

White County got its first win with an impressive 20-7 win over Pickens in Jasper.

Meanwhile, Cherokee Bluff and Jefferson continued their strong starts by staying unbeaten at 3-0. The Bears walloped newcomer East Forsyth 59-0, while the Class 4A No. 1-ranked Dragons routed Southside (S.C.) 45-7 at Memorial Stadium.

North Hall’s rough couple of weeks continued with a 48-37 loss to Hart County in Hartwell. It was a better showing for the Trojans, but the defense has allowed 90 points over the past two weeks.
