Lawrenceville man arrested after hijacking trash truck

By AccessWDUN staff

More than a month after he reportedly hijacked a trash truck in South Hall County, a Lawrenceville man has been arrested on a long list of criminal charges.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said deputies with the warrants unit arrested Aldin Planincic, 29, on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at his home on Ashton Circle.

Planincic first eluded authorities the morning of July 5 when he ran from a Georgia State Patrol traffic stop on Friendship Road near Swansey Road. At the time, Hall County deputies, including a K9 Unit, worked with state troopers searching for the suspect.

Investigators said shortly after he ran away, Planincic approached the driver of a trash truck in the 3600 block of Maple Valley Drive.  Armed with what was described as a pocket knife, Planincic told the victim to “go”  while he hung on to the door frame of the truck.  When the truck came to a stop, Planincic jumped off and escaped.

The driver of the trash truck was not injured.

Authorities have charged Planincic with the following offenses: kidnapping, hijacking of motor vehicle, aggravated assault, safety belt violation, driving while license suspended and fleeing/attempting to elude.
