Toccoa shooting suspect now charged with three counts of aggravated assault

A Toccoa man has now been charged with three counts of aggravated assault in connection with two shootings at two convenience stores on Sunday.

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize said Antoine Demetrius Prather, 31, was formally charged around 9 p.m. Sunday after Toccoa police investigators and the GBI executed search warrants as part of the investigation. Mize said more charges are pending.

The man shot in the first shooting at Buddy's Quick Stop on Big A Road was identified as Andrew McKnight, 28, of Jefferson. McKnight was shot in the leg and was last reported in stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. 

Mize said investigators still have not determined a motive for the shooting, and there is no known connection between the Prather and McKnight.

The names of the other two shooting victims from Tony's Gas Station on Highway 123 have not been released at this time.

A suspect is in custody following the shooting of three individuals at two separate locations. 

According to the Toccoa Police Department, the first shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Marathon gas station, known as Buddy's Quick Stop, on Big A Road.  

One man was shot in the leg while inside his vehicle. The suspect then fled the parking lot and headed onto Currahhee Street. 

According to Toccoa police, the victim was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and is in stable condition. 

At 12:42 p.m. police received a 911 call for another shooting in Stephens County at the Tony's Gas Station on Highway 123. According to police, two people were shot and their condition is unknown. 

At 12:55 p.m. police performed a traffic stop on the suspected vehicle at the N. Big A Road at the Valero Gas Station and he was taken into custody without incident. 

The suspect has been identified as Antuan Prather, 31, of Toccoa. He was driving a white Ford Fusion rental vehicle.

Police said Prather was taken to the police department and then to Stephens County Jail. 

Charges are still pending and the case is open. 

There are no updates on the victims in the shooting.
