Absconded sex offender arrested during traffic stop in Barrow County

A Barrow County man is in jail after a lengthy search for his whereabouts when he failed to report as a registered sex offender. Barrow County authorities had been trying to locate the Statham man for quite some time before his arrest.

According to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith, Anthony J. Parrish was originally charged with sexual abuse 2nd degree in Oregon. Last year the sheriff’s office got word that the 41-year-old man was moving to North Georgia. They attempted to locate him at the address given, but each time they checked, he was never there. The website city-data.com, which lists registered sex offenders, shows an Oak Spring Street address for Parrish in Statham.

The family who lives at the home originally stated he was not there, but in California, but could not provide an address. Later the GBI discovered he was out of state in Wisconsin, but returning to Georgia. Another attempt was made to locate Parrish at the same address, but he was still not found at the location. A warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender in Georgia

On Monday evening, June 28, deputies stopped a car not far from the address they had on file for Parrish. The vehicle was stopped for speeding on State Route 316. Parrish happened to be a passenger in that vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident and will remain there until his court date.
