Hall County Jail inmate stabs officer with pen

An inmate from Braselton now faces additional charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer and obstruction of an officer after attacking an officer last Friday.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Leann Strangler Smith, 42, was uncooperative during a routine pill call in the inmate pod. Officers asked her to return to her cell, but she refused. As they were trying to escort her back, Smith grabbed a pen from the nurses' cart and stabbed an officer several times. Smith was then secured and taken back to her cell.

The officer came out of the attack with an injury around her eye and her hand. She refused treatment.

Smith had been in jail since early January on a State Court Arrest Order.

The incident is still under investigation.
