By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Gainesville man was killed in a single-car crash near the city Saturday night.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the scene on Mountain View Road near Dogwood Drive just before 10:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found an SUV crashed into a tree that had caught fire. The driver was trapped inside.

Hall County Fire Rescue crews put out the fire and removed the man from the vehicle. The passenger in the car was reportedly able to escape on their own and was found near the crash site.

The driver, Jaime Modesto Priciliano, age 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Vidal Reyes Gurrero, age 21, also of Gainesville, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The sheriff's office's accident investigation unit determined that Priciliano was going west on Mountain View Road at high speeds when he went onto the road's shoulder and then lost control as he tried to steer back onto the roadway. He then lost control and hit the tree.

The crash remains under investigation.
