Man arrested after standoff in Braselton

On Sunday afternoon, Jackson County 911 received a call that a Braselton father was shooting at his son.

Braselton Police arrived at the scene first and saw Raymond Russell Sr., 57, on the front porch with an AR-style rifle. Jackson County deputies then arrived on scene.

Deputies told Russell to drop the weapon and put his hands up, but he refused to do so.

According to a social media post from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Russel made comments of being a good shot, saying he "wouldn't miss."

Russell fell on the porch, then stood and retreated into the house. After several hours of communicating with the man, deputies persuaded him to come out of the house with his hands up.

Russell was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

According to Sheriff Janis Mangum with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, this incident happened at the same time that a different man barricaded himself inside his home in Maysville.

Earlier in the week, Russell's son, Raymond Russell Jr., was arrested for terroristic threats against his father.
