Oconee Co. Sheriff's Office search for suspect in gas station shooting

A suspect accused of shooting and killing a gas station clerk in Oconee County early this morning remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous, according to authorities.

According to a social media post from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, the unidentified suspect shot and killed 23-year-old Elijah Wood of Oconee County, who was a clerk at the RaceTrac at 7921 Macon Highway.

Deputies responded to a person shot call at the store at 1:40 a.m. The call came from a patron of the store who discovered Wood.

Deputies arrived shortly after and attempted to revive Wood with CPR but were unsuccessful. Medical personnel declared the victim dead at the scene.

The suspect was dressed in all black clothing and carried a handgun. Authorities are still working to uncover more details in the case and anyone with information is encouraged to contact them at (706) 769-3945.
