Gainesville man arrested, facing several felony charges

A Gainesville man was arrested Wednesday afternoon and is facing charges related to a shooting, a child molestation case and the possession of illegal drugs.

According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, deputies first respond to a call about shots fired on Shallowford Road at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Angel Steven Ponce, 19, was reportedly arguing with a man who was parked on the street in front of Ponce's home. The release stated Ponce and the man knew each other.

As the man drove off, Ponce reportedly fired a handgun several times toward the vehicle, and no one was injured.

After the shooting incident, investigators executed a search warrant at Ponce's home and found about five pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of cocaine.

Also during the investigation, detectives developed information implicating Ponce in a child molestation case. According to the release, Ponce had previously been a suspect in a July 2020 incident. Ponce is accused of committing the crime against a female juvenile at his residence, according to preliminary details.

Ponce is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of felony possession of methamphetamine, one count of felony possession of cocaine and aggravated child molestation.

Ponce remained in the Hall County Jail without bond as of Thursday afternoon.

According to the press release, the case remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, and additional charges are pending.
