City of Gainesville opens SQUAREcrows competition applications

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Applications for the City of Gainesville’s 10th annual SQUAREcrow competition on the Historic Gainesville Square are now open.

From now until Oct. 6, businesses, non-profits, and other organizations can apply to put a scarecrow display on the square to promote their group. There is a $35 application fee.

Main Street Gainesville said creativity is encouraged. However, all scarecrow themes must be family-friendly, nonviolent, and nonpolitical. The themes will be approved based on the descriptions organizations provide in their applications, but the display could be removed after approval if the final product does not meet requirements.

Set up for displays will begin on Oct. 11 at noon and end on Oct. 17 at noon.

The display with the most likes by Trick or Treat on the Square will win a $150 gift certificate to a downtown business of their choice.
