During Friday afternoon’s Change of Command ceremony  Dr. Robert Brittain “Britt” Daniel officially assumed the presidency of Riverside Preparatory Academy.

Riverside officials said during the ceremony at Maginnis Field cadets participated in a military parade and pass in review with parents, guests, faculty, staff and alumni in attendance.

Daniel was named the 11th president of the academy after serving as executive vice president for the last nine years.

“I am honored to be appointed as president of Riverside Preparatory Academy,” Daniel said. “Twenty-five years of serving the Riverside community has prepared me for this opportunity. I know, firsthand, what it is to be a parent who wants to put his or her son in the best possible position to succeed. The Academy’s unique educational model of structure, self-discipline, and leadership in an atmosphere of mentorship, brotherhood, and academic achievement is exactly what families are seeking and what society needs, today more than ever.”

Daniel fills the role after Dr. Stanley C. “Stas” Preczewski announced his retirement in June. Preczewski will serve as president emeritus.

Riverside officials said the change of command is a military tradition representing a formal transfer of authority from one commanding officer to another.

Riverside Academy's flag was passed from Academy Sergeant Major Chad Blansett to Preczewski in recognition of his service. Preczewski passed the flag to Board of Trustees Chairman J. Jette Campbell, who passed it to Daniel.

“Riverside has been producing capable and successful young men for more than a century,” Campbell, a class of 1965 alumnus said. “The Board has every confidence that Dr. Daniel’s leadership focus will continue to inspire young men to reach their full potential. Having witnessed the transformative power of a Riverside education through his son’s enrollment and his 25 years of serving the school community in a variety of key roles, he is well-prepared to lead the academy forward.”
