An East Point man was arrested in Forsyth County Tuesday night in connection to recent thefts of catalytic converters in the region.
According to a press release from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Demetrice Frederick, 37, is accused of stealing multiple catalytic converters.
A deputy was conducting a business check at 3758 Post Road at 10 p.m., when they saw a Dodge Durango parked behind the business stopped in front of one of the businesses' trucks, the release stated.
As the deputy approached, the Durango, driven by Frederick, exited the parking lot. The deputy noticed a catalytic converter on the ground next to the business truck as the Durango pulled away.
The deputy tried to make a traffic stop on Post Road at Evans Road, however, Frederick fled. After a brief chase, the Durango crashed on Kelly Mill Road at Wil Ray Lane, according to the release. Frederick then fled on foot but was later located and arrested after a K-9 track was performed.
Upon Frederick's arrest, detectives found numerous catalytic converters and an extra battery for a DeWalt power tool in plain view in the back of the Durango, according to the release.
Back at the Post Road business, detectives found that 11 catalytic converters were cut off six trucks. A DeWalt Sawzall was also located under one of the vehicles along with six blades.
Frederick was charged with Theft By Taking, Fleeing/Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving and Driving While License Suspended. Frederick is being held in the Forsyth County Jail with no bond as of Wednesday morning.
