Soccer: Chestatee boys hold off GHS; Lady Knights rout East Hall; EHall boys knock off No. 6 Johnson

By AccessWDUN Staff

GAINESVILLE — The Class 4A third-ranked Chestatee boys broke a scoreless halftime tie and then held on late to beat Gainesville, 2-1, Wednesday night at home.

Jesse Nunez and Cristian Mendoza both tallied goals in the second half for the War Eagles (3-0) to give them a 2-0 lead. The Red Elephants' lone score came in the final minute when Pablo Tamayo converted on a penalty kick.

But keepers Bryan Duran and Nathan Ibarra, and a tough Chestatee defense, were able to hang on at the end.

It was Gainesville’s (2-3) third straight loss, all on the road.

JOHNSON GIRLS 9,
EAST HALL 0

The Johnson girls got their first win of the season with a dominating win at The Dungeon.

Madison Booker had a career night for the Lady Knights (1-3) scoring six goals. Eileen Cruz scored twice and Jocelyn Meza scored once for Johnson.

Adriana Ramirez and Eva Lesutis both provided two assists apiece for the Lady Knights.

Keeper Grace Yancey and a solid defensive effort in front of her kept East Hall scoreless.

EAST HALL 1,
JOHNSON 0

Edder Montesnos corner kick midway through the second half was all the Vikings boys needed to knock off Class 5A sixth-ranked Johnson on Wednesday at The Dungeon.

Goalkeeper Walter Bran had the shutout in goal. Junior Ruiz, Ranferi Lara, and Jahir Barrera were key on defense to preserve the shutout.

The Vikings (2-0-1) will travel to East Jackson on Thursday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
