GAINESVILLE — The Class 4A third-ranked Chestatee boys broke a scoreless halftime tie and then held on late to beat Gainesville, 2-1, Wednesday night at home.

Jesse Nunez and Cristian Mendoza both tallied goals in the second half for the War Eagles (3-0) to give them a 2-0 lead. The Red Elephants' lone score came in the final minute when Pablo Tamayo converted on a penalty kick.

But keepers Bryan Duran and Nathan Ibarra, and a tough Chestatee defense, were able to hang on at the end.

It was Gainesville’s (2-3) third straight loss, all on the road.

Edder Montesnos corner kick midway through the second half was all the Vikings boys needed to knock off Class 5A sixth-ranked Johnson on Wednesday at The Dungeon.
