There are more than a few key region games in the northeast Georgia area as the regular season to the Georgia High School Association season winds down this week.
Most teams around the state will complete their region schedules this week but some, including Region 6-7A and Gainesville, will be pushed to next week. Region 8-6A with Buford and Habersham Central and Region 8-4A with Chestatee, East Hall, Flowery Branch, and Jefferson also will not finish until next week.
Gainesville travels to South Forsyth on Tuesday in a pair of crucial region games. The Gainesville girls dropped a key game on Monday against Forsyth Central while the boys rolled to a big road win over the Bulldogs on Monday.
A huge game in Region 7-3A on Tuesday in Flowery Branch will decide second place and an automatic bid into the state playoffs on the boy's side when Cherokee Bluff plays host to Dawson County. Also in 7-3A, the Lumpkin County girls can clinch a state playoff berth on Monday with a huge game against third-place Gilmer in Ellijay.
In Region 8-2A on Tuesday, the Rabun County and Elbert County girls, both ranked in the top four in Class 2A, will meet for a second time in Tiger with first place on the line. The Lady Blue Devils beat the Lady Wildcats in the first meeting in Elberton.
