Rabun County: DUI driver hits a school bus full of children

A school bus full of children was involved in an accident on Monday morning in Rabun County.

The accident happened around 7:18 a.m. on US 76. The bus, loaded with children, was stopped, waiting to make a turn when a car crossed into their lane hitting the bus in the back rear corner. The car also hit two other vehicles that were also stopped behind the bus.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol says that the car was a Ford sedan driven by a 76-year-old man from Clayton, GA. The initial report says that he lost control of the car when he was traveling in the opposite direction from the bus, went off the road, and swerved to get back onto the road, traveling into the opposite lane. That’s when he hit the bus and two other vehicles.

The driver of the sedan, John Stancil, is being charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.

There were no injuries reported.
