Gwinnett County police search for driver in deadly hit-and-run

A driver that caused a deadly hit-and-run crash in Lawrenceville the day before Thanksgiving remains at large, and the Gwinnett County Police Department is asking the public for help finding the suspect. 

The crash happened on Wednesday, Nov. 24 around 6:40 a.m. on State Route 8 (Winder Highway) and Still Road in Lawrenceville.

The Gwinnett Police Accident Investigation Unit determined that Gelacio Urquiza Hernandez, 56, of Winder was driving west on Winder Highway when another vehicle struck his. Hernandez lost control of his vehicle, traveled over a guardrail and then down an embankment. Hernandez was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. His passenger Luis Urquiza Requena, 36, of Winder was killed in the crash. 

Investigators said they have no description of the suspect in the incident. They're asking any witnesses to call GCPD Investigators at 678-442-5653 or Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) with any helpful information. Crime Stoppers tipsters can receive a cash reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case. The case number is 21-096144.
