Boys basketball: Lions open region play with huge road win; Union beats Lumpkin

ROSWELL — Lakeview Academy blew an early lead and then battled back for a 56-50 Region 6-A Private win over Fellowship Christian on the road Thursday night.

It was the region opener for both teams. The Lions (2-2, 1-0 Region 6-A Private) were paced by 15 points from Isaiah Rico. Jack Collins added 13 points and Harrison Cooper and Liam Weidner each had 8 points for Lakeview.

The Lions next will travel to The Weber School next Wednesday.

Eli Underwood hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:28 left to give the Panthers (1-5) the final and then held off a furious Indians barrage in the final seconds.

Lumpkin County (1-4) had three shots in the final 21 seconds but could not find the net, including a tip in inbounds play with a half-second left.

Union County led by as many as nine in the fourth quarter but the Indians rallied to take the lead 53-52 before Underwood's shot.

Underwood finished with just 6 points but four came in the final period. Lake Hughes paced the Panthers with 20 points, 12 coming in the second half. Daniel Snow had 10 points for Union County.

Freshman Cal Faulkner led Lumpkin County with 20 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds. Senior Jones Harris added 14 points and 3 rebounds, Junior Hunter Cooper had 11 points, and sophomore Preston Cox pulled down 13 rebounds for the Indians.
