Girls basketball: Jefferson beats Buford on buzzer-beater; NHall, Union Co., NoFo, GHS, Chestatee get wins

JEFFERSON — Senior Natalia Bolden drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Class 4A No. 4 Jefferson to a thrilling 54-51 win over Class 6A No. 3 Buford to win the Jackson-EMC Tipoff Classic title Tuesday at The Arena in Jefferson.

The Lady Dragons improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season. Buford fell to 2-1 with the loss.

Sophomore Ava Grace Watson led the Lady Wolves with 28 points.


UNION COUNTY 72,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 57

Ava Hunter poured in a career-high 32 points to lead the Lady Panthers to the win Tuesday night on the road.

Union County (3-1) rallied from an early deficit as Cherokee Bluff opened the game with a quick 8-0 lead. But the Lady Panthers answered with a 20-10 run into the second quarter to take the lead for good. 

Bluff fell behind 32-21 late in the second quarter before pulling within 34-28 by halftime.

Union led 52-44 after the third quarter but put the game out of reach with a 14-2 run to open the fourth.

Lara Turner finished with 16 points and Rebekah Chambers had 12 for Union County.

Timber Gaither led Cherokee Bluff (1-1) with 17 points. Finley Millwood added 14 points and Taliah Gaither had 13 points for the Lady Bears.


NORTH FORSYTH 61,
CHEROKEE 44

The Class 7A sixth-ranked Lady Raiders held the fifth-ranked Lady Warriors to just 2 first quarter points en route to the dominating win.

North Forsyth, behind 12 first points from Haelin Adle, led 11-2 after the opening period and took a 31-14 lead into halftime.

Cherokee (3-2) trimmed the lead to 48-34 heading into the fourth quarter but could not get it below 10 points as North Forsyth (5-0) pulled away.

Erin Whelan finished with 15 points to lead North Forsyth. London Weaver had 11 points for the Lady Raiders.

Toni Warren paced Cherokee with 15 points.


GAINESVILLE 50,
ARABIA MOUNTAIN 47

The Lady Red Elephants used a huge fourth quarter to rally for a win on the road.

It was the third straight for Gainesville (4-1) which is off until traveling to North Gwinnett next Tuesday.

Arabia Mountain jumped out to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter and led 25-22 at halftime. The Lady Rams increased their lead to 34-27 heading into th fourth quarter.

But th Lady Red Elephants exploded for 23 fourth-quarter points to pull out the victory.

Gainesville was led by Keidra Young with 15 points. Caloni Young added 14 points and KeKe Jones had 10 for the Lady Red Elephants.


CHESTATEE 52,
LANIER 43

The Chestatee girls moved to a perfect 4-0 on the young season with a win over the Class 6A Lady Longhorns on Tuesday in the Mickey Long Classic at the Gainesville gym.

Riley Black poured in 18 points and pulled down 7 rebounds to lead the Lady War Eagles. Riley Allison added 14 points for Chestatee. 

Addison Boyd had 7 points and 7 rebounds, Bowen Corley had 4 points and 5 rebounds, and Payton Cable 3 points and 7 rebounds.

Chestatee is off until traveling to Flowery Branch on December 10th to open Region 8-4A play.


NORTH HALL 65,
SOUTH DOYLE (Tenn.) 51

Kristina Peach poured in 30 points to lead North Hall to a tournament win in Pigeon Forge. Amelia Shoemaker added 17 points for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall (2-1) takes plays Cosby HS on Wednesday in Pigeon Forge.
