UGA football player suspended after rape allegation

A UGA football player has been accused of rape.

A 21-year-old female told Athens-Clarke County police that she went to an Athens residence between 12 and 7 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29 after having drinks and was sexually assaulted. She has accused Georgia outside linebacker Adam Anderson.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, police are investigating but have not filed any charges and no arrests have been made in the case.

The victim went to the police department just after 2:30 p.m. the same day that the rape occurred to file the report. She said the sexual act was nonconsensual and she was able to leave the apartment. The department's Criminal Investigations Division interviewed her.

The same day that the report was filed, UGA had a football game and Anderson played in that game. Police have not confirmed whether or not they have contacted him since that time.

ESPN is reporting that Anderson has been indefinitely suspended, and he has not been at practice this past week.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Anderson, 22, is a senior from Rome who is being projected as an NFL first-round draft pick.
