A road rage suspect is in jail in Hall County after he reportedly led law enforcement officers on a chase down Ga. 365 Monday afternoon.

In a media statement, SFC Donnie Saddler, the Commander of Post 7 of the Georgia State Patrol, said one of his troopers heard radio traffic from the Habersham County Sheriff's Office about a firearms road rage incident on Ga. 365 near Alto-Mud Creek Road. Saddler said the trooper spotted the black Chrysler 300 from the Habersham County call a short distance away near Cagle Road. He said the trooper attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle fled.

During the southbound pursuit on the highway, the fleeing driver - later identified as Larry Joshua McConnell, 33, of Mount Airy - lost control of his vehicle and wrecked at the QT convenience store at White Sulphur Road.

Saddler said McConnell got out of the vehicle and ran with his rifle in his hand, but he was captured shortly afterward.

McConnell sustained minor injuries as a result of the vehicle crash, but he was treated at the scene and then released into the custody of Hall County authorities.

Saddler said McConnell will face charges of DUI, felony fleeing and reckless driving from the Georgia State Patrol.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office charged McConnell with felon theft by receiving because the Chrysler 300 he was driving had been stolen; he was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A K9 unit from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and GSP Post 6 in Gainesville also assisted in the pursuit and arrest.
