Volleyball playoffs: Six area teams move into quarterfinals

FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 3A playoffs with a sweep of Southeast Bulloch on Saturday.

The Lady Bears dominated the Lady Yellow Jackets 25-5, 25-13, and 25-2 at home.

Maddy Levine led Cherokee Bluff with 20 assists and 5 aces. Emma Staples had 9 aces and 7 kills, Sage Sutulovich added 11 kills and 1 block, and Abbi Hutchins had 4 digs for the Lady Bears.

Olivia Owens had 3 kills and Sierra Piland had 1 kill, 1 block and 1 assist for Cherokee Bluff.

Cherokee Bluff will play the winner of the East Jackson-Morgan County match on Tuesday in the third round.

In other action involving Northeast Georgia-area teams, Class 6A defending state champion Buford also moved into the quarterfinals with a 3-0 sweep over Richmond Hill.

Three Area 8-4A teams moved into the quarterfinals in the Class 4A tournament. Jefferson swept Shaw 3-0 at home while Flowery Branch went on the road and knocked off Area 2-4A champion Columbus 3-1. Chestatee, the No. 3 seed from 8-4A, took down Area 1-4A champion Thomas County Central 3-1 on the road as well.

Area 8-2A champion Union County also continued to roll sweeping Johnson-Augusta 3-0 at home.

The quarterfinal round is set to begin on Tuesday.
