Boys basketball: Chestatee explodes past East Hall; Dawson, Banks, Jefferson, Buford win; Lakeview falls

GAINESVILLE — Chestatee was just unstoppable. 

The War Eagles (6-13, 4-4 Region 8-4A) had three players in double figures and hit 11 3-pointers en route to an 82-64 win over East Hall (6-15, 2-7 Region 8-4A) at home on Tuesday.

Ethan Popham scored a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds, while Peyton Phillips poured in 23 points -- 21 from 3-point land, and Hugh Pruitt added 22 -- four 3s. Joshua Bull added 10 assists and two points. Colton Wilbanks finished with 9 points. 

After falling behind 18-14 by the end of the opening period, the War Eagles found a spark from Phillips and Pruitt. The two combined for 23 points to lead the War Eagles on a 32-point second quarter and a 46-33 lead at the half. 

The two, along with Popham continued the scoring onslaught in the third quarter. Popham and Phillips added 6 points each and Pruitt had 8 to outscored East Hall 22-18 and take a 68-51 lead.  

Christian Torres led the Vikings with 22 points, and Imre Earls had 11. 


DAWSON COUNTY 73,
GILMER 49

Jake Craft scored 28 points to lead the Tigers (16-6, 7-2 Region 7-3A) past Gilmer on the road Tuesday. It was Craft's third straight game with 25 or more points. He also netted his 1,000th career point in the win. 

Joakeim Celestin added 14 points and Tyler Lane scored 10 points. Jaden Gibson dished out 10 assists and scored 7 points in the win.

The win moves the Tigers to second place in the region standings after White County knocked off Cherokee Bluff on Tuesday. Dawson holds the tiebreaker against Bluff, but the two will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 2. If both teams win on Friday, that game will be the tiebreaker with one game to go on Feb. 5. 


KING'S RIDGE 58, 
LAKEVIEW 46

Despite Conley Millwood's 27-point performance, the Lions (11-5, 6-3 Region 6-A Private) fell to Class A-Private 10th ranked King's Ridge on Tuesday. 

Harrison Cooper added 8 points in the loss. 


NORTH HALL 53, 
LUMPKIN COUNTY 52

North Hall survived in a close one against Lumpkin County at home on Tuesday. The win lifted the Trojans to the fourth spot in the region standings. Lumpkin is a game behind in fifth.

Chandler Pulley led the Indians with 19 points and Jones Harris had 13 points. 


BANKS COUNTY 77,
UNION COUNTY 42

Pierce Martin scored 19 points and Garrett Presley had 14 to lead the Leopards (15-7, 3-1 Region 8-2A) over Union County (0-7, 0-2 Region 8-2A) at home on Tuesday.

Dakota Orr turned in a double-double performance with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Clay Gosnell added 7 points.


JEFFERSON 64,
FLOWERY BRANCH 35

Kadin Bailey scored 16 points and Dalen Gales had 10 to lead the Dragons (13-4, 6-2 Region 8-4A) past Flowery Branch (3-13, 0-8 Region 8-4A). 


BUFORD 69, 
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 35

Jaylon Taylor scored 18 points and Alahn Sumler had 15 in the Wolves (14-4, 5-2 Region 8-6A) win over Habersham Central on Tuesday.

London Williams poured in 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Marc Mauge chipped in 10 points. 

Malachi Dooley paced the Raiders (8-12, 0-8 Region 8-6A) with 9 points. Jacob Brown added 8.
