Girls basketball: Caldwell leads Lumpkin past No. 8 Gilmer; No. 3 Buford rolls; Jefferson, Rabun, White, LCA win; Johnson loses

DAHLONEGA — The fourth-ranked Lumpkin County girls (14-4, 6-1 Region 7-3A) had four in double digits to roll past No. 8 Gilmer, 67-46, on Friday at Lynn Cottrell Arena. 

Makenzie Caldwell poured in 20 points, while Isabel Davenport scored 14, Averie Jones pitched in 13, and Mary Mullinax added 11 points in the blowout win. 

The win strengthened the Lady Indians position in Region 7-3A sitting in a tie with White County with five key games remaining, including North Hall, Cherokee Bluff, White County and Gilmer (10-4, 5-2 Region 7-3A). 

Lumpkin County wasted no time jumping on the Lady Bobcats, behind Davenport's six points and Mullinax's seven in the first quarter to storm out to a 15-4 advantage after the first eight minutes. 

The second quarter was just as strong for the Lady Indians with Jones, Lexi Pierce, Mullinax and Caldwell taking a 28-16 lead into the locker room at the half. 

Gilmer's Emma Callihan, who scored a game-high 23 points, tried to rally the Lady Bobcats in the third period with 14 points. But Lumpkin's team scoring in the third was too much to overcome as the Lady Indians strolled to a 50-32 lead at the end of 24 minutes. 


BUFORD 60,
DACULA 29

The Lady Wolves (15-0, 6-0 Region 8-6A) took care of business in the first half then strolled in the second in a rout of Region 8-6A foe Dacula at Buford City Arena on Friday. 

Freshman Ava Grace Watson to lead all scorers with 25 points, 18 in the first half, to push the Lady Wolves to a 47-14 halftime lead. 

Tatum Ozment added seven points and Ashyia Willis netted six in the win. 


RABUN COUNTY 65,
UNION COUNTY 37 

Sophie Woodard scored 21 points and Ellie Southards had 14 points to lead the Lady Wildcats (13-3, 2-1 Region 8-2A) past Union County (2-4, 0-1 Region 8-2A) on the road Friday

Gracie Deetz added 9 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, while Beth Payne ripped down 10 boards. 


WHITE COUNTY 71,
NORTH HALL 51

Naomi Roberts scored 20 points to lead the Lady Warriors (9-7, 8-1 Region 7-3A) over rival North Hall (6-12, 4-4 Region 7-3A) on the road Friday. 

Dasha Cannon and Maddie Futch added 13 points each. 


JEFFERSON 61, 
CEDAR SHOALS 44

The No. 1 ranked Lady Dragons (13-3, 6-0 Region 8-4A) survived on the road against 10th-ranked Cedar Shoals Friday.

Deshona Gaither led the way with 29 points, Livi Blackstock added 13, and Allianne Clark had 11.


APALACHEE 43,
JOHNSON 35

The third quarter is where it all went south for the Lady Knights on Friday against Region 8-5A foe Apalachee.

Johnson outpaced the Lady Wildcats in the first half, 19-14, but a 20-5 Apalachee run in the third quarter killed the momentum and led to the loss.

Sarah Johnson scored 18 points and Ashley Mintz had 14 points to lead the Lady Knights in the loss. Jasmin Williams had 22 points to pace the Lady Wildcats. 


LANIER CHRISTIAN 65,
TRINITY PREP 29

The Lady Lightning (11-0, 7-0 Region 2-3A GAPPS) won their 10th straight game with a blowout win over region win over Trinity Prep at home on Friday.

Shyla Sheffield, Reece Montgomery and Lacey Nichols each scored 13 points to lead LCA. Lexie Robertson also contributed 10 points.
