Boys basketball roundup: Banks rallies past East Jackson; Knights fall to Loganville in 8-5A

HOMER — Banks County rebounded from a tough loss on Friday to knock off East Jackson 54-45 on Saturday at home.

Both teams got off to a slow start with the Eagles (3-5) leading just 5-2. But Banks County exploded for 23 points in the second quarter to take a 25-18 halftime lead. The Leopards led 37-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

Garrett Presley posted a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Leopards (12-6). Pierce Martin and Bradley Lewis each scored 15 points for banks County. Clay Gosnell added 8 poits and 8 assists and Dakota Orr pulled down 13 boards for the Leopards.

Banks County next will travel to at Rabun County on Tuesday in a big Region 8-2A contest.

East Jackson will play host to Monroe Area on Tuesday in Region 8-3A play.

JOHNSON 55

The Johnson boys could not hold a lead against Loganville on Saturday in Region 8-5A action.

The Knights (3-9, 1-6 Region 8-5A) trailed 16-12 after the first quarter but rallied to take a 29-28 lead by halftime. They pushed their lead to 50-45 heading into the final period.

But Loganville (12-4, 5-2 Region 8-5A) outscored Johnson 20-5 in the fourth quarter to ally for the win.

The Red Devils did a lot of their damage at the foul line. They shot 24-of-29 from the free throw line while Johnson was just 3-of-4 from the line for the game.

Wade Pearce poured in a career-high 30 points, including 7 3-pointers, to lead Johnson. Jackson Vandiver added 14 for the Knights.
 
Loganville was led by Jafari Law and Chris Dorber with 12 points each.

Johnson next will play host to Walnut Grove on Tuesday  in another Region 8-5A contest.
