Volleyball: GHS drops region opener to Lambert; LCA holds off Bluff

SUWANEE — The Gainesville girls volleyball team opened its Region 6-7A schedule Thursday with a tough loss to host Lambert.

In a best-of-5 format, the Lady Red Elephants fell behind 2-0 after dropping the first two sets 25-18 and 25-20. They rallied to win the third set 24-14 but could not continue the comeback as the Lady Longhorns closed it out with a 25-10 win in the fourth set.

Isabella Garrish led Gainesville with 2 aces, 19 assists and 11 digs. Ansley Turner added 2 kills, 13 digs, and an ace, Lauren Ware had 4 kills and 3 digs, Lauren Teasley added 7 kills and 4 blocks, and Kendal Glasper had 5 kills and a block for the Lady Red Elephants. Kerrigan Gruhn had 2 aces, 2 kills, 2 blocks, and 2 digs, Margaret Embry had 12 digs and an ace, Savannah Brock had 5 digs,  and Caroline Reisman added an ace and 6 digs.

Gainesville (18-4, 0-1 Region 6-7A) next will travel to South Forsyth in another region matchup on Thursday.


LCA knocks off Cherokee Bluff

The Lady Lightning held off Cherokee Bluff in a non-region battle in Flowery Branch.

LCA took the opening set 25-21, while the Lady Bears rallied to tie the match with a 25-4 win in the second set. In the deciding set, the Lady Lightning edged the Bears 15-13 to win the match. 

Emma Kate Kalinauskas led the LCA attack with 7 kills and had 7 digs. Evelyn Keefer had 4 aces, 4 kills, and 11 digs. Lily Martin, Haylie Ramsey, Nadia Lulinski, and Arianna Winfrey all contributed for the Lady Lightning.
