Gainesville man jailed for machete attack

By AccessWDUN Staff
A Gainesville man implicated in two other domestic incidents this year has been arrested after damaging a vehicle belonging to a woman he was once in a relationship with and attacking one of her male friends with a machete.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said Jody Todd Brown, 31, was arrested Monday afternoon after an altercation at a residence on Price Road in the northwest part of the county.

A woman called 911 to report Brown and the man who lived at the residence were involved in a fight.

"Deputies responded to the address at approximately 1:20 p.m. in reference to Brown being armed with a machete and physically fighting with another man," Booth said. "Deputies witnessed Brown fleeing the property in a car and followed him to another driveway on Price Road where got out of the vehicle and ran. Deputies gave chase on foot, verbally identifying themselves and telling Brown to stop."

Eventually, deputies were able to get close enough to tase Brown and place him under arrest.

Booth said the 34-year-old woman who called 911 told deputies Brown had broken a window and slashed a tire on her vehicle. Then, Brown entered a shed on the property and began taking some of the items inside. That's when the 43-year-old man who lived at the residence confronted Brown.

"Brown is suspected of attacking the man with the machete as the victim attempted to defend himself with a sword," Booth said. "Hall County Fire Services transported the male victim to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Brown was also transported to the hospital for evaluation of injuries he suffered in the altercation and was booked into jail on Monday evening."

Booth said so far Brown has been charged with second-degree burglary, criminal trespass and obstruction of an officer. Additional charges, including aggravated assault, are pending. Brown remained in jail at last report.

In addition to the charges filed in Monday's incident, Brown had outstanding arrest warrants for domestic violence incidents that occurred earlier this year in Hall County. The March 8 and July 15 cases also involved the female complainant from Monday’s call, according to Booth.
