Volleyball: Jackson County stays perfect; roundup

JEFFERSON — Jackson County remained unbeaten on the season taking a pair of straight-set wins Tuesday at home.

The Lady Panthers (4-0) spiked Flowery Branch 25-9 and 25-18 and then held off rival East Jackson 25-11 and 25-21 in the nightcap.

Jackson County is off until week when it travels to Lanier.

Flowery Branch (0-4) next travels to Buford on Thursday in a tri-match while East Jackson will play host to Putbam County on Thursday.


GHS sweeps, Bluff splits in tri-match

Isabella Garrish led the Gainesville volleyball team past East Hall and Cherokee Bluff on the road Tuesday. 

Garrish totaled 8 aces and 25 assists on the day as the Red Elephants blasted East Hall, 25-4 and 25-7, but needed the tie-breaker set to knock off Cherokee Bluff. 

Gainesville rebounded against the Bears after losing the first set, 25-23 but rallied 25-12 and 15-12 to seal the tri-match victory. 

Gainesville's Kendal Glasper had 11 kills. Lauren Teasley added 3 kills.  Ansley Turner had 2 aces and 4 kills.  Kerrigan Gruhn had 6 kills.  Margaret Embry had an ace and 9 digs.  Abbey Council had 4 aces. Lauren Ware added 5 kills.  

Emma Staples led the Bears against Gainesville with 2 aces, 5 kills and 7 digs. 

Bluff split the day's action beating East Hall in straight sets, 25-6 and 25-2. Tristan Boling scored 8 aces, 4 digs and 9 assists. Camille Godfrey smacked 4 aces and 1 dig, and Abbi Hutchins finished with 3 aces and 1 dig. 

Gainesville will host a quad-match on Thursday against Apalachee, Lakeview and Habersham Central. Play begins at 5 p.m. Bluff will travel to Tallulah Falls. Game time is set for 7 p.m.


West Hall 2, Cedar Shoals 0; West Hall 2, Commerce 0 -- The Spartans improved to 5-1 with a sweep of Cedar Shoals (25-16, 25-12) and Commerce (25-1, 25-8) in Athens. Chloe Radich led the team with 8 aces and 7 kills. Kaleigh McFarland had 5 kills and Lizzet Cendejas had 4 aces and 4 assists. The Lady Spartans play host to Madison County and Johnson on Thursday.


LCA 2, Johnson 1; North Oconee 2, Johnson 0 -- Johnson almost escaped Lanier Christian Academy with a split but the Lightning put the Knights away in the tiebreaker set to win the match on Tuesday. 

LCA beat Johnson 25-22 and 15-9 to seal the win. Johnson won the second set, 25-23. Alexa Berry led the Knights with 2 aces, 3 kills and 3 blocks. Kali Lyons had 2 aces, 2 kills, and 5 assists, and Jenna Degroot had 2 kills and 2 blocks.

North Oconee rolled past the Knights in two sets, 25-15 and 25-13. Tatum Turk led Johnson with 2 aces and 4 kills. Alexa Berry had 1 kill and 3 blocks. Kali Lyons had 1 ace and 5 assists.
