S.C. pair arrested after chase through Jackson, Banks counties

A Saturday night chase of a stolen vehicle through two counties resulted in the arrest of two South Carolina residents by Commerce police.

“On Aug. 8 at 6:50 p.m., Commerce P.D. was advised of a stolen vehicle traveling southbound on I-85,” said Commerce Police Lt. Lisa Griebel. “Commerce units were unable to stop the vehicle due to its failure to yield.”

The chase traveled through both Jackson and Banks counties, ending on U.S. 441 after the fleeing vehicle’s tires were deflated.

“A large amount of narcotics were found inside of the vehicle,” Griebel said.

Sheba Rene Floyd, 30, of Marietta, S.C., and Henry Alan Gerlach, 35, of Williamston, S.C., both were placed under arrest.

Gerlach is charged by Commerce police with possession of oxycodone hydrochloride, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, theft by receiving stolen property, theft by bringing stolen property into the state, felony fleeing/attempting to elude, reckless driving, open container, speeding in excess of 100 mph, failure to obey stop sign, failure to signal when turning or changing lanes, driving on suspended license, and failure to maintain lane, jail records show.

Floyd is charged by Commerce police with drugs not in original container, possession of oxycodone hydrochloride, possession of drug-related objects, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana, jail records show.

The two remain jailed in Jackson County.

The investigation is continuing.
