Chief: Foul play not suspected in death of Cleveland man on railroad in Mt. Airy

Mt. Airy Police Chief said Andrew Dylan Claborn, 33, of Cleveland is the man who was found dead beside the railroad in Mt. Airy Friday morning.

“The Habersham County Coroner’s Office has identified and notified the family members of the decedent from the early-morning death call in Mt. Airy,” said Police Chief Tim Jarrell. “We’re still investigating, but do not suspect foul play is involved.”

Multiple agencies responded to a man found dead along the railroad at Dicks Hill Parkway in Mt. Airy about 8:23 a.m. Friday morning, May 29.

A Norfolk Southern employee aboard a passing train called 9-1-1 after seeing the man near the tracks close to where Dicks Hill Parkway crosses the tracks.

Responders arrived to find a male in his early to mid-30s laying face down beside the railroad tracks with multiple injuries, Jarrell said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit responded, as did the Habersham County Coroner’s Office.

“Norfolk Southern Police were contacted to assist in halting train traffic so that items of evidentiary value could be collected, and the scene preserved through photographic documentation,” Jarrell said.

The GBI State Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur will determine the cause of death.

The investigation is continuing.
