Vehicle rolls over Alto man performing maintenance

An Alto man suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he was run over by a vehicle he was working on Friday afternoon.

Billy Burton, 37, was injured in the incident about 1:10 p.m. when a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck he and Mason Dills, 19, of Alto were working on began to roll, said Cpl M. Patterson of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.

The truck was parked facing north on an incline in the private driveway of 355 McDaniel Street, Alto, Patterson said. Burton removed the drive shaft of the truck.

The truck’s wheels were not chocked and the parking brake was not operational, so the truck began to roll backward and over the legs and feet of Burton before continuing downhill, where it struck a tree with its rear and came to rest, Patterson said.
