White Co. EMA providing COVID-19 alerts to senior citizens

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The White County Emergency Management Agency has begun sending alerts on the COVID-19 outbreak to senior citizens through its CODE RED notification system.

The alerts will be sent to seniors through telephone landlines, cell phones, text messages, emails or hearing aids according to a release Thursday from the White County Office of Public Safety. It will provide information on times and locations for seniors to shop for groceries or pharmacy needs as well as tips for staying safe during the pandemic and contact information for officials to provide further information.

The alerts will be sent once a day. The first round of alerts were sent Thursday between 6:00 and 8:30 p.m.

The county EMA also provided a link to an app developed by Apple and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that provides questions to determine if someone should seek care for Coronavirus symptoms.

Further information on COVID-19 safety for citizens in White County can be found on the county's website.
