Hall Fire Services sergeant recovering from cardiac arrest

By AccessWDUN staff

The Hall County Fire Services employee who went into cardiac arrest on Tuesday is recovering at the hospital, the department announced this morning.

Sgt. Jonathan Barton was participating in physical training and conditioning with a recruit class at the department’s training center just before 3 p.m. Tuesday when he suffered the heart attack.

“We appreciate your continued prayers for Jonathan and his family,” the department said in a Facebook post.

Barton was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where a heart catheterization was performed, and a stent was placed in his heart. A pump was placed to help the heart function properly.

Overnight, Barton was responsive to his wife and attempted to talk around his endotracheal tube. He suffered several episodes of irregular heartbeats, but it was managed by the hospital staff.

The department said it would update Barton’s condition when more information is available.
