Fire destroys Banks County camper home

A towable camper being used as a residence in southern Banks County was destroyed by fire Friday morning.

The fire, at 181 Hebron Court, Commerce, was reported at 8:18 a.m.

“The resident was home at the time of the fire, but was unharmed,” said Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols. “The property is listed as a total loss. The cause of the fire is listed as accidental and an electrical shortage could not be ruled out at the cause.”

The American Red Cross was called to assist the resident.

Banks County Fire/EMS was assisted by Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department.

Units concluded the call at 9:44 a.m.
