Boys basketball: Gainesville holds off West Forsyth, Branch wins

CUMMING — Gainesville held off West Forsyth in the second half en route to a 66-64 win on the road on Thursday night. 

It was the Red Elephants' (4-2, 1-0 Region 6-7A) first region win. 

Robert Reisman led the way with 20 points, one of four in double digits. Ced Nicely added 12 points, Jimmy Jackson hit for 11 points and Eli Pitts netted 10. 

After jumping out to a 33-25 lead behind Reisman's hot hand -- 10 points in the first half -- to take a 33-25 lead at the half. But the Wolverines offense, led by Joe Wartman with 17 points, 15 in the second half, came alive in the third quarter to cut the lead, 50-48, after the third quarter. 

Jackson and Reisman scored a combined nine points in the final period to help the Red Elephants stay on top. 

Gainesville plays host to North Gwinnett on Saturday.

The Falcons (3-0) extended their season winning streak to three straight with the win over West Hall (0-1) in Oakwood on Thursday. 

It's the best start in two seasons by the Falcons. Trevor Gurske led the Falcons will 13 points. 

Chase Reed scored 10 points to pace the Spartans. 

Flowery Branch outscored the Spartans 19-11 in the first half. West Hall won the second half 17-11. 

The Falcons play Habersham Central at home on Saturday, while the Spartans have rivals Johnson at home on Saturday.
