DAHLONEGA — The Michael Parker-era at Lumpkin County got off to a strong start Saturday night.

The Lumpkin boys held off Johnson, 47-37, in both teams’ season opener at the Lumpkin County gym.

The Indians (1-0) jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter and a 36-19 lead at the half.

But Johnson was able to clamp down on the Indians (1-0) holding them to just 11 second half points. The Knights (0-1) pulled to within 40-25 at the end of the third quarter and eventually cut the lead to just six points with two minutes left. But Johnson could get no closer.

Gus Faulkner led Lumpkin County with 11 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Jones Harris also scored 11 for the Indians. Chandler Pulley chipped in 9, and Brian Cunane added 6 points to go along with 12 rebounds for Lumpkin County.

Johnson was led by Wade Pearce and Jake Shaw, who each scored 10 points.

Lumpkin County next will take part in the Piedmont College Hardwood Classic against Habersham Central on Tuesday.
